About Shirley Club

The Shirley Club was the brain child of Shirley Brown, aka S1, from Western Australia in 1996. Putting a notice in a newspaper inviting “Shirley's” to join her for lunch, she never expected the response she received. Sixty-two strangers, all named Shirley, joined her for lunch.

From that first luncheon, the club numbers continued to grow. The first Convention for the Shirley Club was held in 2001. A new record was established for the Guinness Book of World Records called “Same Name Gathering”, which can be found on page 94 of the 2004 edition.

There is now a Shirley Club in every state of Australia and two in New Zealand and the name has evolved to Shirley Club Australasia.

In 2008 the idea was born that a Shirley Club should be here in the USA. A phone call to Shirley Brown, S1, confirmed that the Shirley's “down-under” would be happy to see Shirleys in the USA join together in fun and friendship — that’s how the Shirley Club USA began.

The Shirley Club USA is a membership club.  Members receive a Shirley Club USA shirt, personalized name tag, social cards, and quarterly newsletters featuring special news items from members, jokes, recipes and information about past luncheons.  

When possible Shirleys meet, some monthly, to have lunch, share stories and catch up with other Shirley's.  Many of the members did not know another Shirley before joining this club.  Many of the members did not care much for their "Shirley" name.  However, if you talk to these members now, they will tell you that after joining this club they "love" their name.  If you go by the name “Shirley,” we’d love to hear from you!
